The following poem is from an undated newspaper clipping.
At the end of the poem was listed: "W.A. Tucker, 1030 Cottage street, City."
THE CHURCH ON THE CORNER
There's a Methodist church on the corner;
Of Cottage and Sandusky street
Where the faithful meet Sabbath morning
To worship and each other to greet.
Then come to the church on the corner
No lovelier spot in the town.
May there your sins be forgiven
May you there in worship bow down.
You'll be met at the door with a welcome
And be shown to a nice cushioned seat.
Where you can study the scripture
And there find a rest complete.
The Stem Bible class is a fixture
Of which we can all be proud.
And Pinkerman the teacher
Is surely a servant of God.
And Wolfe the superintendent
Who has done such excellent work
He is always at post
And never his duty shirks.
And then you should meet Charlie Helbert
Who composed such a beautiful song.
And if we but follow his footsteps
We will never go very far wrong.
There are three other men I should mention
Who saved the old church and town clock
And if you will listen I'll name them
They are Simanton, Biggs and Hitchcock.
The Sunday school lesson is ended
But please just remain in your seat
And hear our excellent choir
Sing some of their songs so sweet.
And then you should hear Rev. Whiting
As he tells that sweet story told often
'Tis the wonderful story of Jesus
That never no never grows old.
And after you have heard the sermon
I think you can't help but feel
That it was better for you to have been there
Than out riding in your automobile.
Then come again next Sunday morning
When you hear the clear ringing bell.
As its tones peal out o'er the city;
Saying come, and all will be well.
