John Warens, was born in Pennsylvania, in 1800, came to Ohio at an early day, and settled on the farm now owned by the Warens heirs. When he first settled there it was like a wilderness. He cleared his own farm and built his own cabin, and was truly one of the pioneers of Ashland County.
In 1830 he married Mary Elkes in Ashland County. He died in 1867, and his wife still survives him. He was the father of seven children: William, who married Catharine Horn; John C., who married Magdalena Estwiler; Elizabeth, Mary E., Susan R., Martin, deceased, and one child who died in infancy.
