Thomas Bryte, son of John and Elizabeth (Ford) Bryte, was born January 28, 1830. In 1855 he went to California, where he engaged in a grapevine and dairy business, which he followed for sixteen years. Then he returned to Ashland County and purchased the farm known as the old John Eaton homestead, where he still resides. On the southern borders of this farm are evidences of an ancient fort, a description of which is given elsewhere in this work. Mr. Bryte’s father was an old pioneer, an extended a sketch of whom is found elsewhere.
