Philip Stentz was born in the State of Pennsylvania where he was married to Mary Hoover. To them were born seven children, three sons and four daughters: Mary and Susan (twins) John, Michael, Catharine, Simon, and Sarah, who died in early childhood. He came to Ohio about the year 1831, and first made a settlement in Wayne County, four miles north of Wooster. There he purchased a tract of land and resided seven or eight years. Then he came to Clearcreek Township, and remained until the time of his death in 1870; he survived his life’s companion eleven years. They were buried in the old Herb Cemetery in Clearcreek Township.
