Pvt. Bernie Walker Was Killed In Germany
Pvt. Bernie Walker, 19, was killed in action in Germany on April 14, his wife Genevieve, of Mansfield, learned in a War Department telegram.
Pvt. Walker, who is the 74th Ashland countian to die while in service, entered service May 5, 1944, taking basic training at Camp Croft, South Carolina. After a short furlough, he was transferred to Camp Shelby, Mississippi, and from an embarkation point went overseas February 14. He was in France before going to Germany.
Born March 20, 1926, in Wayne, West Virginia, he was the son of Boyd and Vinnie Walker. He lived in Wooster and Jeromesville before coming to Ashland, where he lived about two and one half years. He is survived by his parents, who now live in Mansfield, his wife and their eight-month-old daughter, Nellie Bernadine.
