Pvt. Earl C. Hauenstein Was Killed April 20, 1945 Somewhere In Germany


Mr. and Mrs. Earl C. Hauenstein of West Salem, Ohio Route 3, have received word that their son, Pvt. Earl C. Haunstein, Jr., was killed in action somewhere in Germany on April 20, 1945.
He entered service Nov. 1, 1944, going to Cleveland and then on to Camp Atterbury, and then to Camp Joseph T. Robinson in Arkansas. He was with Co. A, 75th Reg. Until March 1, 1945 when he was home for a week, after which he was sent to Ft. Meade, Maryland on March 7, 1945. After a few weeks there he was sent to LaHavre, France, from where he went to Reims. The last Letter his parents received was on May 8, 1945 and was dated April 16, 1945, at which time he was at Strasbourg, Germany, and was then being moved to the front.
Pvt. Hauenstein was born September 19, 1925, in Ashland, Ohio, and attended Ashland school's until his Junior year, then moving west of Albion, he entered Homerville High School and graduated with the class of 1934. Before entering the service, he was engaged in farming on his father's farm.
Pvt. Hauenstein is the 77th Ashland countian to give his life in the service
