Howard Morckel's Death Confirmed


Mr. and Mrs. L.P. Frary, 1200 Myers avenue, have received confirmation from the war department of the death of their son, Staff Sgt. Howard A. Morckel in the Southwest Pacific May 27,1943.
The notification read, "General Marshall extends deep sympathy in the loss of your son, Staff Sgt. Howard A. Morckel. He died in the honorable service of his country to preserve the freedom under which he lived."
S-Sgt. Morckel was a gunner on a B-24 Liberator. He received training at Sheppard Field, Texas, Las Vegas, Nevada as well as other places.
He was born in Carrollton May 21, 1919. In 1937 he graduated from Polk High School where he was a member of the basketball team for three years. Morckel was employed by the U.S. Aluminum Co. in Cleveland prior to his induction.
