Fantastic web site. Thank you Sheila. The last time I was in Ashland was 15 years ago but I still have fond memories of my "Home Town". I hear it has really changed.

Thanks for your informative website. I am a descendant of the Fish family. I am specifically looking for a Matilda Fish who was supposedly born in Ashland, Ohio in 1825 and later married a William Martin. According to family lore she may have been of American Indian descent although she may have been listed in census as white to hide the fact. None of this is proven. Any information on her family would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Our Walter and Margarey (Maggie LOWRY family are listed in the •1850 and 1860 census for Ashland, Troy Township with eight children. (Older, born in NY)
Many of their children are buried in the Savannah Ohio Cemetery, four.
• I cannot seem to find any useful info on Walter and Margery (Maggie) Lowry, and it seems strange. Can you give me suggestions on finding any old records 1850-1880's to check, or to have checked? (Farm land/taxes?) Apparently Walter and Margary "Maggie" were not buried with their children. Walter died before Maggie. (Which book might cover the 1840- to 1880? Maggie was alive in 1880.
Nicely organized, I thank you, Helen

What a beautifully done site. The photos by Donna Hill and Russ Shopbell are outstanding. I was thrilled to find the headstone of my greatgrandfather John W. Strickling on the site as I did not have a copy of it. Keep up the good work.

Thank you so much for posting the graduating classes senior pictures. I grew up in Ashland but now reside in Southern Ohio. It was a nice surprise to be able to browse through old senior photos of my graduating class, '75. I also found my fathers class...1940!

This is a very informative and interesting site. my great-grandfather was Phillip Heiffner, son of David Heiffner and Margaret Hartman. I'm wondering if anyone has any information to add to my research. I'm also wondering if there are any photos available of the Heiffner Cemetery. I have taken photos of gravesites of my ancestors and would like to obtain any, if possible. I can add aditional information about his family, if anyone would like it. Thanks so much for the sharing.

My ancestors were some of the first settlers in Virmillion, Ohio. The time was around 1814. The person's name was William Black. Reference is made of William when the history of E. R. Eckley is being reviewed. I am trying to find out information about William's death, which I believe is between 1850 and 1860.

Very well done! I am researching the Austin brothers, who lived in the county and may have owned land there. They were married to two McCaughey sisters. This McCaughey family is one in which my husband is descended. We also have some connections with a White family that lived in the same area. My husband's great grandmother was Margaret Ann White. I am hoping that I may be able to locate some information on these families.

Great, great job on this site! I wish every county had one! I found my step-brother and step-sister and some old friends (and some not so much;) I had forgotten!
I would have graduated in 1976 from Hillsdale HS, but took a wrong turn there for a few years. It turned out well, though, I now have wonderful 32-year-old daughter, 22-year-old stepdaughter, and 10-year-old granddaughter.
Some of my family are still in the Ashland/Mansfield area, so I visit when I can.
Friends now call me Toby, but family still calls me Revoy (or Sis).

Researching my Brant family. David Brant and his wife Nancy Ann Hook are found in the 1850 Ashland Co. census. David moved on to Holmes Co. Oh for a while, and then on to Kosciusko Co. IN where he was buried. Four generations are buried in Wooden Cem. in Harrison Twp. Am seeking info on any of his children who stayed in Ashland Co. The 1850 census has only first name initials so its been difficult to identify the older children who didn't follow him to Indiana.

RISSER - Looking for information on Menonite brothers Jacob and John Risser who established a church in Vermillion Township, Ashland, Ohio in the 1800's. There was a disagreement and Jacob. Jacob Risser built a house in Vermillion township with a rose above the front door. Each petal was inscribed with a child's name. A few years ago I was told that it is now a mantle above a fireplace.
I'd appreciate any information.

I am researching Wm Evers married in Ashland Co., to Catherine Gorrel in 1842. They were listed in the 1850 census of Ashland Co., with their boys. By 1855 they moved to Williams Co., Ohio and bought a farm. This is where they raised their family. I am trying to find the parents and siblings of William and Catherine.

I'm so glad to find this site. Isaiah Crouse (b. 1814 in Ohio) was my great great grandfather, married Duannah E Richards (b. 1816 in Virginia) in Ohio 1835.
I believe Isaiah's parents were Jacob (b. 1775) & Rebecca Crouse. My sister Dawni & I have been searching for Crouse family members since 1980's. Our great grandmother was Emily Jane Crouse, she married Isaiah Albert Richards in 1864 Ohio.
If this sounds familiar to anyone, please contact me.

My father's brothers are Ted and Richard Harmon. Our lineage dies with me and my brother if my next child isn't a boy.
