From "THE WESTERN CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE" Cincinnati, O May 24, 1854
"March 12 - In the bounds of Orange circuit, North Ohio conference, Elisha Chilcoat.
He was born June 26, 1790, in Bedford county, Pennsylvania, and in the year 1816 at a camp meeting, near Jeromeville, he was brought to renounce sin and believe with a heart unto righteousness. Ever after his delight was in the law of the Lord. No one was more interested in the society of ministers than he, and they always met with a cordial reception at his home, and most cheerfully did he contribute to their support. A short time before he died he reminded his family of the approaching quarterly meeting, and at the same time remarked that he would not be here; but they must see that the amount that would be due from them for the support of the Gospel be paid. For more than a year before his death he had been confined most of the time to his room; but he felt that his afflication would be for his good, because he - as all had reason to believe - loved God with a pure heart fervently. When death came it did not find him unprepared. He had lived the life of the righteous, and it was his to die their death."
Austin Coleman
He was 63 years, 8 months and 16 days of age at the time of his death.
Inscription of his tombstone reads: "And I heard a voice from heaven
Saying unto me, Write, Blessed
are the dead which die in the Lord"
